TYLER  APIPHU  WATCHALAPONG

  • White Belts

  • Achieved Yellow

  • Graduated!!

I've been thinking.....the fact that Tyler is very athletic is because we have supported him in all types of athletic sports from a young age. Actually, this is the benefit of attending an international school, and one of the main reasons why we had Tyler complete Year 7 (Equivalent to grade 6) before moving over to the US.

Attending an international school abroad, the child/student is not only exposed to learning, speaking, and reading English but is also exposed to all the core curriculum as well as sports benefits.  Being able to participate in various types of sports - at least 2 different sport per semester - that means that within a year, the student has a chance to try out for up to four sports should they wish to do so.  And they maintain their grades.

There was one thing that I had always thought Tyler from a young age - do not conclude too soon on "preferring" a certain sport until he had the chance to try all sports that are supported by the school.  This is to determine which is a sport that he enjoys the most and will be able to select as his "main/major" and which sports will be "minor" or even "recreational".

Taekwondo Was the first sport that we encouraged Tyler to participate in. Over in Asia, martial arts is considered a prestigious sport no less than American football. However, our encouragement was not only from an athletic standpoint but also from a security factor. It was a self-defense skill that I wanted to instill in him.
