The 2nd to the last soccer game of the year for Faith Lutheran middle school team. 5 kids were already previously injured and had to sit out the season. There were no more subs as of this game onwards. Yet, all kids were very excited and prepared to give it their all. Though the results of the game weren't very outstanding, our kids DID give their all. To everyone's dismay, our main goalie got injured during this game while blocking and got kicked in the stomach. Doubling over in pain, he had to sit out for the rest of the game. Tyler was next in line for taking a hit. Running towards the sideline as the passed ball was due to go out-of-bounds, he took a dive on the concrete running track that surrounded the soccer field.
Studs were made for grass. Not for concrete. Thus, the concrete caused him slide forward and loose his footing. He put his hands out to best assist in balancing and avoid crashing into the pebbles decorating the side of the field. However, the damage was done. Yet....no one knew. He threw the ball from the sidelines and kept playing until the end of the game.
It wasn't until we got into the car did he raise the alarm, "Mom, could we go to the emergency? My wrist is really hurting and I think it's beginning to swell."
